The brand-new DeLaurenti House Pinot Noir has arrived. Made from grapes grown in 2022 in the distinctive soils of the Eola-Amity Hills AVA in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, this Pinot Noir is a textbook example of the approachable, medium-bodied wines that the Pacific Northwest quietly excels at — if you know where to look.

The Willamette Valley, renowned for its exceptional Pinot Noirs, was shaped by 200 million years of tectonic shifts and 15 million years of volcanic activity, crafting the rich, layered landscape we know today. Nestled along the Willamette River, the Eola-Amity Hills AVA draws its unique character from both the land and the wind. Spanning nearly 40,000 acres, where the Eola Hills meet the Amity Hills, the region’s shallow volcanic soils — laced with ancient marine sediment — challenge the vines, producing small, concentrated grapes. Above, the Van Duzer Corridor funnels cool ocean air through a gap in the Coast Range, tempering summer heat and preserving acidity in the grapes.

Our Pinot Noir is crafted by winemakers Bree and Chad Stock using fruit from the renowned Witness Tree Vineyard, which sits on southeast-facing slopes rich in volcanic Jory soil. Known for their holistic farming and minimalist winemaking, the Stocks create site-specific, authentic wines. For this Pinot, they used partial whole-cluster fermentation and spontaneous yeast, then aged it for 18 months in a mix of new and neutral French oak barrels. It was bottled without fining or filtration.

The 2022 growing season challenged Willamette Valley vineyards with late spring rains, frost, and summer humidity, leading to intense mildew pressure. Yet, thanks to a strong fruit set and secondary buds, the Witness Tree vineyards overcame frost damage, and dry weather held until late October. By harvest, grapes arrived later than usual but with exceptional quality.

What’s in the bottle is a beautifully complex wine with dark cherry at its core, a whisper of baking spice and wild herbs, and a layered, flavorful finish. This Pinot Noir promises to charm both connoisseurs and casual drinkers alike.
