Panettone
Celebrating the holidays with a slice of panettone and a flute of prosecco is hard to beat. But which panettone? Italians have been making and enjoying panforte since the Middle Ages. The name means “strong bread” in Italian, and this Tuscan specialty has become a Christmas staple far beyond Italy.
Panforte is firm and dense, made with almonds, chopped candied citron, citrus peel, and warming spices. One of our favorites is Fratelli Lunardi Panforte Margherita. It’s ultra dense, rich, and studded with sticky citrus and almond. You can find the many panforte we carry here. They’re beautifully packaged and pair well with a cup of coffee, tea, or a sweet dessert wine.
Another classic Italian Christmas favorite, torrone is a nougat confection typically made with almonds, smooth honey, cane sugar, and fluffy egg whites. We carry it in a wide range of styles — with chocolate, pistachios, lemon, orange and more — and in packages sized for everything from stocking stuffers to generous gift boxes.
